District 205's "Operation Program/Job Save" Plan Up for Vote Monday Night -- LINK AVAILABLE HERE
Almost three-dozen different ideas and ways to save money in the Galesburg School District budget could be on the way to reality if the District-205 board approves them Monday night.

The Galesburg School Board will vote on whether or not they want to implement what District finance chief Guy Cahill has referred to as "Operation Program/Job Save."

The plan, if implemented as presented -- cutting or changing everything above a red-line in the list presented to the board -- would save nearly $3.5 million.

That's the amount of a shortfall the district would otherwise expect to realize in state budget monies.

Among the proposed changes -- a new copier and printer lease program that will save over $100,000, some positions not being filled due to retirements, increasing textbook rental fees, increase admission to all student athletic events, implement an athletic participation fee, and all administrators giving back three-days worth of pay, along with changes to the school district calendar and other things.

District officials have said that if the cuts are made, a number of the 80-plus reductions in force made at last month's meeting could be recalled.

The Galesburg School Board meets at 7pm in the board room at Lincoln School. The meeting is open to the public, and there is time for public comment.
