Volunteer Awards Given; Galesburg Residents Among Them
People who have set themselves apart by giving their time and talents gathered at the Governor's Mansion in Springfield Monday to be recognized as among the best in the state.

The state's Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service -- "Serve Illinois" -- handed out thirteen Governor's Volunteer Service Awards. They focus on five areas: economic opportunity, education, environmental conservation, health, and veterans' affairs. Age categories are people 18 and under; 19-54, and 55-plus.
