Giannoulias Says He's Raised Less Money Than Kirk
CHICAGO (AP) -- Democrat Alexi Giannoulias says he has raised less money in the first quarter than his Republican opponent in the race for President Barack Obama's old Senate seat.

Giannoulias' campaign did not release the actual amount he has raised. GOP U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk said last week that he had raised $2.2 million in the first quarter to finance his bid for the seat.

Giannoulias said after a speech Monday to a Chicago civic club that his campaign had a great fundraising quarter. The Illinois state treasurer said he raised less than Kirk in part because he had a contested primary that kept him away from fundraising.

Kirk and Giannoulias are locked in a tight race.
