Glitches Hit State E-Filing
CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois Department of Revenue officials say residents attempting to file their tax returns electronically are running into problems.

Revenue department spokeswoman Susan Hofer said Thursday filers are having trouble accessing the e-filing program to obtain a PIN number on the agency's Web site. She says no one has been shut out of filing, and it will not penalize people if they are "slightly delayed" by the problems.

Hofer says taxpayers who have gotten PIN numbers in the past and use the number again because they don't change. Others can use the department's automated toll-free phone number to obtain a PIN number.

Hofer says the revenue department is working to ensure the computer system can cope with the balance of tax filers who attempt to log onto the system.
