Fire Destroys Rural Knox County Home -- PICTURES AVAILABLE HERE
FIRST REPORTED 3:00pm 4/15/10 An early morning fire Thursday did what could be described as extensive damage to a rural Knox County home.

That's according to Rio Fire Chief Chris LaGrow. He says firefighters from Henderson, Rio, and Oneida-Wataga were called to 256 Knox Road 2350 North sometime before 5:30am Thursday, for a fire in a two-story home at the location near Henderson.

LaGrow says crews spent a lot of time putting out the blaze -- at least four-hours, in fact, but smoke could be seen as late as 12pm from the scene, as several flare-ups occurred.

LaGrow says soot that built up in the home's chimney from a fire that had been going in the fireplace is the cause of the blaze.

At least two people were inside the home at the time of the fire, but they were out of the house by the time firefighters arrived.

While a State Fire Marshall's investigator was called, LaGrow says the fire is not believed to be suspicious.

The home is said to be a total loss. No one is hurt, but LaGrow says two firefighters are okay after dealing with heat exhaustion.
