Indicator of Economic Activity in Illinois On the Rise
The Illinois economy is still a ways away from recovery.

This is judging by the monthly Flash Index published by the University of Illinois at the start of each month, which rose from 91.5 in March to 91.8 for April.

The increase shows Illinois is headed toward recovery, says economist Fred Giertz, but it's still not close to getting there. A Flash Index reading over 100 indicates economic growth; numbers under 100 indicate contraction, so this slight increase shows that the Illinois economy is still rotten, but is slightly less rotten.

Giertz says unemployment is still a problem in Illinois, and job growth will come back slowly. He says businesses are seeing better profits.
