Macomb Students to Be in Class on Veterans Day
MACOMB, Ill. (AP) -- Macomb Public School students will be in class on Veterans Day, starting next school year.

Superintendent Alene Reuschel says many students now use the day off to shop or go see a movie. The change will ensure they instead learn about the sacrifices made by veterans.

Reuschel knows some students will be disappointed with the loss of their day off, but she says there will be a school improvement day on the Friday of that week. She says that means students will properly honor veterans and still get some time off.

Reuschel has spoken with Western Illinois University's ROTC and the Macomb VFW about the change. She says both support the idea.

The district doesn't have a set schedule of events planned for Veterans Day. Reuschel says that's still a "work in progress."
