Unborn Child Dead in Easter Day Shooting
FIRST REPORTED 6:00 a.m. 4/23/10 A death has occurred as a result of an Easter Sunday shooting outside a Galesburg home.

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says a coroner's jury there Thursday ruled the death of Don Charles Campbell Walker a homicide.

Walker, the jury says, was the unborn child of 21-year old Chariot Campbell, the woman authorities say was shot in the chest, allegedly by 27-year old Katonnia Kelley in the 500 block of Holton Street the afternoon of Easter Sunday.

The inquest was held in Peoria County, where Campbell was taken for treatment following the alleged attack.

The coroner's jury ruled that the death of Walker was due to what they termed a Maternal Gunshot Wound. The baby was pronounced dead the morning after the suspected shooting.

Kelley faces charges of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and a preliminary hearing was delayed this week until this coming Tuesday.

In a statement to WGIL, Knox County State's Attorney John Pepmeyer says no new charges have been filed, but that the new evidence is being evaluated, and a determination on charges will be made "very soon."

Kelley remains jailed on $250,000 dollars bond.
