Banker to Present Monmouth College Lecture
John Courson, president and CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) and an alumnus of Monmouth College, will present the Wendell Whiteman Memorial Lecture on April 27 at 11 a.m. in the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.

Titled "The United States Financial System - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow," Courson’s talk is free and open to the public.

Courson, who has been involved in the mortgage industry for more than 40 years, served as chairman of MBA in 2003. He began his career in mortgage banking working for Denver-based Kassler & Co. during summers in high school and college. Courson completed his undergraduate degree in business and finance at the University of Colorado after attending Monmouth College for one year. Even before his degree was completed, he began originating loans as a branch manager in a Denver suburb.

Following his graduation, Courson worked as a loan officer on both commercial and residential loans at a Denver branch of Fort Wayne Mortgage, a company he would later lead as president and CEO. He also worked for Central Pacific Mortgage Company and Westwood Mortgage Corporation, and he was president and chief operating officer of Fundamental Mortgage.

Beginning in 2004, Courson served four years as chairman of the board of directors of the California Housing Finance Agency, a position he was appointed to by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"John Courson brings tremendous industry knowledge, business savvy and political skills to MBA," said its chairman, Kieran Quinn, when Courson joined the association. "He has been an advocate ensuring safe and affordable housing for all Americans and for simplifying the mortgage process."

The Whiteman Lecture Series brings prominent leaders of American business and industry to the Monmouth College campus. It is named in memory of Wendell Whiteman, an alumnus of the college and long-time executive of Security Savings Bank in Monmouth.
