Illinois Workers Affected by Trade to Get Help
CHICAGO (AP) -- There's help available for some workers in Illinois and elsewhere around the nation adversely affected by trade imports.

The U.S. Department of Labor this week certified that 5,500 workers from companies in 13 states are eligible for benefits through a federal program called Trade Adjustment Assistance.

In Illinois, the department says workers who were at Metaldyne in Niles can apply.

Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis says helping U.S. workers affected by trade is the right thing to do.

Those covered by the latest certifications will be able to apply for various benefits and services. Those can include jobs training. Others may be able to receive job search and relocation allowances, as well as health coverage tax credits.
