Monzo to Resign as Knox County Recorder
ORIGINALLY POSTED 8:29pm 4/23/10 Embattled Knox County Recorder Paula Monzo might not officially be Recorder much longer.

The agenda distributed Friday for this coming Wednesday's Knox County Board meeting indicates that the board will vote on the resignation of Monzo.

Monzo was arrested in late-November of last year on a felony Theft charge, accused of stealing $3,500 in funds from the Knox County Democratic Central Committee over a one-year period while she was its treasurer.

Monzo was re-arraigned on the charge earlier this month, and is scheduled to be in Knox County Circuit Court earlier in the day Wednesday for a plea hearing.

Monzo is believed to have worked as recorder ever since her arrest.

Knox County Public Information Officer Gary Tomlin says the county board also has on their agenda a vote for an interim recorder, but believes the County Democratic Party will have to caucus first and come up with a replacement.

Tomlin also says it's likely there will be a special election in November to pick someone to fill Monzo's unexpired term.
