|Exchange Club Names Youth of the Year
|Sara Yemm, daughter of Rick and Jamie Yemm of Galesburg, was honored as the Exchange Club of Galesburg's Youth-of-the-Year for 2010. She received the award at the club's special luncheon Friday, April 16th.
Sara, a senior at Galesburg High School, participates in many school and co-curricular activities while maintaining an exemplary academic record.
She was selected for this award from among the six Exchange Club Youth-of-the-Month finalists honored October 2009 through March 2010.
In a very close competition among equals, Sara was chosen on the basis of her school and extra-curricular activities, presentation and essay on the topic "Inspired by the power of community service."
Those skills will serve her well as she pursues her education at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington pursuing a degree in business administration.
The Exchange Club of Galesburg presented Sara with a $500 scholarship check and a plaque.
She will represent the Galesburg club in the Lincolnland District Youth-of-the-Year competition and potentially National Exchange Club recognition. The national Youth-of-the-Year will be named at the Exchange Club National Convention this summer.
The Exchange Club is a group of men and women from the area who meet every Friday at 12:07pm at the Kensington to hear an informative program. They have been involved since their founding in 1924 with a variety of community service projects; it's Exchangites who pass out flags before local parades, honor a Youth-of-the-Month and Youth-of-the-Year during the school year, recognize worthy law enforcement officers, firefighters and contribute funds from the club's youth foundation to a variety of local organizations. Guests and new members are always welcome.
