Giannoulias Campaign Releases Ad About Failed Bank
CHICAGO (AP) -- Democratic Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias is trying to recover from the political blow dealt to his campaign by the collapse of his family's bank.

In a TV ad released Monday, Giannoulias says Broadway Bank was financially healthy when he left in 2006 and was elected Illinois state treasurer. He says no one could have foreseen the problems that led to its collapse.

Most of Broadway's deposits were transferred to MB Financial on Friday when banking regulators shut down the bank founded by Giannoulias' late father.

Giannoulias also takes a swipe at his Republican opponent, Rep. Mark Kirk, for the nation's economic troubles.

Kirk and Giannoulias are seeking President Barack Obama's old Senate seat.
