Congressman Gets Federal Funding for Rural Transportation
A local Congressman says he's secured some money a Warren County-based organization says it desperately needs in order to help get rural residents the health care they need.

17th District Democrat Phil Hare says he has secured $100,000 in economic stimulus funding for the Monmouth-based Warren Achievement Center, so they can buy two buses for transporting senior citizens in Warren, Henderson, and Mercer Counties to doctor's appointments and to get prescription medications, among other things.

Hare tells W-G-I-L given how accessible some facets of health care are, or aren't, in some parts of that area, the transportation can be crucial.

"For example, in Henderson County, I went to the health care clinic there. That is the only place in Henderson County that you can go to get a prescription filled," Hare said. "If you live in Henderson County and that clinic is closed for some reason, you have to go someplace else."

Hare calls the funding, quote, "a great investment."

It's part of a pilot program Warren Achievement Center put together in order to address some of their rural health care needs.

Hare says the center doesn't have the money officially yet, but should very soon.
