All Aboard for Honest Abe
A project that's apparently been years in the making by the City of Galesburg is closer to becoming reality -- honest.

Sixth Ward Alderman Wayne Allen told the Galesburg City Council during a special meeting Monday night that a statue of Abraham Lincoln aldermen apparently approved a year ago, is almost complete, and will be brought to Galesburg in a few months.

Allen says there is a perfect place for the statue that ties Lincoln's history and Galesburg's history together.

"The city has picked out a spot down by the depot where it will be because (Lincoln) did come by train one time, he came from Knoxville one time as he stayed in a motel there," Allen said. "But it's something that we've lacked in the city for a long time."

Allen says the statue is six-feet, six-inches tall -- same as Lincoln -- and will primarily be gray granite.

He says local historian Tom Wilson has written an inscription that will be on the base of the statue.

A date for its installation is not known.
