Former GPD Officer Pleads Not Guilty in Felony Theft Case
POSTED 10:42am 4/28/10 Prosecutors have finally released some specifics in the case of a now-former Galesburg Police officer accused of several felony charges.

Warren Anthony "Tony" Riley was arraigned Wednesday morning in Knox County Circuit Court, but not before Special Prosecutor Chuck Zalar filed amended charges.

Riley now faces one-felony count of Theft, and three-counts of Official Misconduct.

Riley, court documents claim, stole money used for controlled drug buys that was locked in a police investigator's desk drawer, on multiple occasions between March of 2007 and this past February.

The Official Misconduct charges cite specific instances of alleged theft that occurred on January 23rd, January 26th, and February 19th of this year.

Riley turned himself in to authorities March 5th, a day after he resigned from the force.

Riley, through attorney John Rehn, pleaded not guilty to the charges and asked for a trial by jury.

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for June 18th, with a trial possibly occurring June 21st.

Riley, meanwhile, remains out of jail on bond.

Multiple Freedom of Information Act requests made by local media outlets including WGIL have been denied since Riley's arrest. WGIL's denial is under review by the Illinois Attorney General's Office.
