High Winds Blamed for Power Outages
POSTED 3:42pm, UPDATED 5:05pm 4/29/10 Ameren Illinois says tree branches combining with high winds are to blame for power outages across the state Illinois, but at this point, all the outages in the immediate area have been restored.

Leigh Morris, Ameren spokesperson, says as many as 16,000 people statewide were without power at one point Thursday afternoon. Morris says high winds causing arcing power lines, or trees blowing into power lines, are primarily to blame. Morris says the power will be back on as soon as possible.

Locally, the largest section of the area without power was Knoxville, with almost the entire city in the dark at one point. But, by 4pm, the power outages in Knoxville were restored, but increased to 1,700 in Galesburg. As of 4:50pm, all the power outages in the Galesburg area were restored.

You can track the power outages in your area by CLICKING HERE. You can report a power outage to Ameren by calling 1-800-755-5000.
