Applications Online for Student Advisory Council
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois State Board of Education says it's now taking applications for next school year's Student Advisory Council.

The board said in a news release Thursday that there are eight openings available on the 15-member council for sophomores, juniors and seniors. Board officials say the council presents research and makes recommendations on policy to the board. Members can attend board meetings and give input.

State education superintendent Christopher Koch says the council is "a hands-on opportunity to learn how educational policies are developed and implemented." He always says it's good preparation for college and career.

Those eligible to apply must attend public schools. The application is available online and is due on May 14th.
