February Jobless Rate Climbs in Illinois Over Year Ago
CHICAGO (AP) -- Jobless rates for Illinois' 12 metropolitan areas were were higher in February than they were during the same month a year ago.

The numbers released Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security also show unemployment in those areas rose for the 33rd straight month.

The Decatur metropolitan area had the biggest rise in unemployment between last month and February 2009. The area's seasonally unemployment rate climbed 4.5 percent to 14.6 percent. Rockford, which has the highest unemployment rate in Illinois, saw its rate climb from 14.6 percent to 18.6 percent.

The unemployment rate in the Chicago metro area rose from 9.1 percent in February 2009 to 11.3 percent last month.

Bloomington-Normal's rate was 9.5 percent, making it the only area in Illinois with an unemployment rate under 10 percent.
