Accused Holton Street Shooter Makes Court Appearance
ORIGINALLY POSTED 2:31pm 4/6/10 The Galesburg woman accused of shooting another woman in the chest on Easter Sunday has made her first court appearance.

27-year old Katonnia Kelley appeared in Knox County Circuit Court for her appearance Tuesday afternoon via video conferencing.

Kelly has been formally charged with a Class-X felony count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and a Class-One felony count of Aggravated Discharge of a firearm.

Knox County Assistant State's Attorney Matthew Kwacala told Judge Paul Mangieri that police were called to a home in the five-hundred block of Holton Street around 4pm Sunday for a dispute, but learned en route that a shooting had taken place at a home next door.

Police say the alleged victim -- 21-year old Chariot Campbell -- was found sitting on the front porch, and had a hole in her chest.

She was transported to a Galesburg hospital, but was later air-lifted to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria where she remains.

Kwacala says a police search of the home Kelley was in turned up the gun, and that she admitted to committing the shooting without being questioned.

Mangieri found probable cause for Kelley to be tried, set bond at $250,000, and appointed a Public Defender

Kelley will be back in for her first appearance with a Public Defender Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock.

She faces as much as 45 years in prison if convicted on both counts.
