Bill Aims to Get Funding For Main Street Program
(IRN)-A bill has been introduced in Springfield to provide some funding for the Illinois Main Street program, which now exists in name only.

"The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity brought the bill to me," says the sponsor, State Representative Patrick Verschoore (D-Milan). "What this would do is make it more official that this is a program in place and that we would try to [get] some funding for it."

The program is designed to assist cities with initial cost for downtown revitalization efforts. The legislation also establishes the lieutenant governor as the ambassador to the Illinois Main Street program.

The State Government Administration Committee is expected to hold a hearing on the bill Thursday.
