Speak Up for Health Effort Debuts New YouTube Spot
OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. (AP) -- The Joint Commission has turned to cartoons to promote its "Speak up" campaign urging patients to be more involved in their health care.

The hospital accrediting group's latest effort focuses on preventing the spread of infections. It debuted this week on YouTube.

The cartoon features animated vignettes in which a woman tells her aunt to wash her hands before preparing food, an office worker tells a sneezing colleague to go home and tend to her cold; and a little boy tells an older man to get a flu shot.

An earlier cartoon urged people to speak up to help prevent medical errors.
The group wants doctors and hospitals to make the videos available in waiting areas, cafeterias and patient rooms.

The commission is based in Oakbrook Terrace, west of Chicago.
