Urbana HMO to Protest Exclusion from State Plan
URBANA, Ill. (AP) -- An Urbana-based HMO plans to protest an anticipated state decision not to offer it a contract to continue providing health care coverage for state employees and retirees.

Health Alliance Medical Plans told The News-Gazette newspaper in Champaign that the state's decision will force more than 99,000 people in state insurance plans to make changes in their health care coverage. The company claims a high percentage will have to pay more in premiums and out-of-pocket costs.

The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services says it will announce the awards of new contracts for managed care next week. Health Alliance won't be among them. Insurers that aren't selected will have two weeks to protest the decisions.

Health Alliance Medical Plans has provided coverage to state employees for 30 years.
