Unemployment Ticks Upward Locally
Local unemployment figures, in some areas, continued downward movement in February, but for others, they made slight movements up.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security released county by county jobless figures for February Thursday, and they show Knox County's Unemployment rate going up one tenth of a point in February, to 9.1 percent.

The City of Galesburg's jobless figure went up two tenths in February, to an even nine percent.

The state combines those numbers with a Warren County figure of 8.6 percent that went down a tenth of a point in February, to get a Galesburg-area Unemployment Average of 9 percent.

The state says while the figure is much better than a jobless average that hovered around 12 percent this time last year, non-farm payroll jobs dipped by around 125 in the area.

Around the area, Fulton County saw its unemployment rate increased a tenth to 11.2 percent, Henderson County's went down to 10.5 percent, and Henry County's went up to 8.7 percent.

In a statement, IDES Director Maureen O'Donnell says every county in the state saw a year over year decline in unemployment for the third straight month, and it helps, quote, "share the story of a growing Illinois economy."
