Congressman Still Hopeful for No Government Shutdown
Congressman Bobby Schilling says he still thinks a government shutdown can be averted, but for right now, there's really only one way to do that.

"What we're trying to do now is get the one week extention to get us to next Friday and they actually are talking about the $73-billion budget."

The Colona Republican told the WGIL Morning News Friday the budget can be worked out, as long as the military keeps getting funded regardless.

"We need to take the military off of the table, and I think that's the big accomplishment that's trying to be done [Friday] and if we can get that done and get people to sit down and really just to work together as members U.S. Congress rather than parties."

Schilling is referring to the proposal in the one week stopgap bill to fund the military for six months.

Schilling says if that's what it takes, he'll gladly take budget cutting suggestions from his constituents.
