Il Federal Employees Relieved Shutdown Averted
CHICAGO (AP) -- Federal employees in Illinois are expressing both relief and anger that a government shutdown was narrowly avoided.

Social Security Administration employee Jill Hornick of Crete said Saturday it was "utterly ridiculous'' that it took the Obama administration and Congress so long to reach a budget agreement. The 45-year-old said it was unclear for days whether she would return to work on Monday.

Environmental Protection Agency worker John O' Grady said both parties are more concerned with their reelection bids and said ``shame on them all.'' The 58-year-old from Naperville is president of his local chapter for the American Federation of Government Employees.

A budget deal was reached just before the midnight deadline on Friday. It cuts $38 billion and keeps the government running through the 2011 budget year.
