Peoria Jail Employee Suspended After Gun Found
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- A Peoria County jail employee will be suspended for 20 days without pay after a security lapse last month that allowed an inmate to smuggle a loaded gun into the facility.

Sheriff Mike McCoy says the employee didn't conduct a complete search of 18-year-old Tyron Robinson. The employee's name hasn't been released.

Investigators say Robinson got a loaded revolver past searches by both Peoria
police and jail personnel after his March 22 arrest.

The gun was apparently hidden under his clothes.
The (Peoria) Journal Star reports that no punishment has been announced for any Peoria police officers.

Robinson is being held on $700,000 bond for attempted murder and weapons charges.

The jail plans to install a walk-through metal detector and begin using hand wands to improve searches.
