Tax Freedom is April 15
(IRN)-Tax freedom day is coming soon, but not soon enough for some Illinois politicians.

Tax Freedom Day, as determined by the Tax Foundation, is the day we stop working to pay our tax obligation and start working to fill our own wallets. For Illinois this year, it's April 15, a too late date, says U.S. Sen. Mark S. Kirk (R-Ill.)

"Tax Freedom Day for the state of Illinois is now four days later than it was last year, due to the tax increases approved by the state legislature and the governor," he said. "Tax Freedom Day is also later for Illinois citizens than for citizens of other states."

The national average is April 12. Eight states have Tax Freedom Day later than Illinois. Much of this is caused by federal income tax. Illinois is a relatively high-income state, so its citizens pay more taxes.

Nevertheless, Illinois House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) says political leaders of both parties are serious about keeping state spending under control, the House agreeing to spending limits $2 billion less than the governor's budget.
