New Military Library Open in Downtown Chicago
CHICAGO (AP) -- A new library featuring thousands of military-related books, uniforms medals and flags has opened in downtown Chicago.

The Pritzker Military Library attempts to tell the story of the military through the eyes of those in uniform. The 40,000-square foot facility is across from the Art Institute of Chicago.

The library first opened in 2003. It was the brainchild of James Pritzker, a businessman who served nearly three decades in the military. His collection of nearly 7,500 military books was the basis of the library.

The library now has nearly 60,000 items include rare items like a book from the 1600s called ``History of the Low Country Wars.'' The location on Michigan Avenue opened in February.

The library is free but will eventually charge admission.
