Sheriff: Bones Found Under Hardin County House
CAVE-IN-ROCK, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities in southern Illinois' Hardin County say they're investigating human remains found over the weekend under a house's floor.

Sheriff Lloyd Cullison tells the Southern Illinoisan of Carbondale that a man who bought the house near Cave-In-Rock made the discovery about 1 p.m. Sunday while tearing out the floor to remodel the structure.

Cullison says he suspects the bones and a tooth that were unearthed may have been there for perhaps 20 years, though he says he'll let Illinois State Police crime-scene investigators help figure that out.

The sheriff says he plans to check property records at the courthouse to try to pinpoint ownership of the house over the years, and he's checking whether there are any unsolved missing-person cases that might determine the identity of the bones.
