Area School Districts Meet to Compare Issues and Talk Solutions
Superintendents and board presidents from school districts in Galva, ROWVA, Cambridge, and Alwood met this week to discuss their futures.

Galva Superintendent Doug O'Riley tells WGIL the meeting was an informal one and was really meant more to show support for one another, than make any serious plans.

"It's was more of a 'we're in the same boat as you' kind of conversation," O'Riley said. "[We wanted to] let each other know that we can and talk to each other about a certain problem we're facing. We can call and say 'how are you doing this?' 'This is how we're doing it.' It was a teamwork-kind of thing to solve the same kind of problems and just kind of open doors."

Consolidation has been on the mind of district officials across the state as Governor Pat Quinn is pushing to have fewer districts in Illinois as a cost saving measure.

O'Reily says the group talked some about consolidation but felt it would cost more money than it would save at the moment.

He says they mainly shared ideas about transformation problems, talked over possibilities of distance learning or sharing teachers in order to provide students with more opportunities.
