City Wants Common Vision for All Galesburg Entities
The Galesburg Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased with an agreement the city has entered into with the Chamber of Commerce.

The Tourism Agreement was approved by city council members last week and splits revenue from the hotel-motel tax between the city and the C-V-B.

Mayor Sal Garza attended the tourism council meeting Tuesday and says the agreement not only solidifies current practice but enables the city to bring all entities together in what hopefully becomes a shared vision for Galesburg.

"I also realize, and one example that I'll use is, the external agency funding that we do annually that come before the city council, but at the same time the Welcome Center and specifically the tourism component of it isn't involved in that process and I thought that was a disconnect that we really should be looking at consolidating our efforts to improve efficiencies."

Garza adds because there is only a finite amount of money to be spread around, it would help to ensure each external agency communicates well in order to improve the community as a whole instead of in individual pockets.
