Famous Local Poet Once Again Honored
A well-known late poet who just happens to be from Galesburg will once again be the subject of an annual festival.

Thursday marks the start of the annual Sandburg Days "Festival for the Mind" -- the annual festival of music, photography, and reading literary works.

Carl Sandburg College Marketing Director Robin DeMott is one of the organizers, and tells WGIL while a number of locations around town will host Sandburg Days events, one of the key places will be, as you can expect, the Carl Sandburg Birthplace.

"they have a kickoff concert Thursday evening at seven, we have the Knox College poetry awards on Saturday as well as the writers workshop with Cyn Kitchen on Saturday afternoon and then a lecture on Sunday."

That's in addition to a poetry slam that was held Wednesday, discussions on this year's "The Big Read" selection of "The Stories and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe", a Carl Sandburg College Poetry Awards ceremony, and more.

You can find out more information by clicking on the "Sandburg Days" link on the homepage of WGIL.com.
