GOP Says State Has to Work on Business Climate
(IRN)-Republican state senators say Illinois is on a fast track to doomsday, unless their ideas to keep businesses from shutting down or fleeing are adopted.

The Republicans crafted a Doomsday clock, similar to what was created by scientists during the Cold War, to highlight problems such as high workers' compensation costs, high corporate tax rates, and high income tax rates.

"For too long, we have taxed our companies out of competition," says State Senator Kirk W. Dillard (R-Hinsdale). "Republicans believe the best way to put money in the state treasury is to put people to work in the private sector."

The Senate Republican plan outlines 30 bullet points they say will encourage business growth, such as weakening EPA regulations at construction sites, eliminating the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and offering corporations and businesses larger income tax refunds.
