"Source Code" Source of Concern for Chicago Commuter Rail System
(IRN) -- The movie Source Code, which opened this weekend, is a source of controversy for Metra.

Metra is the commuter rail agency in the Chicago area. In the movie, there's a bomb on one of the trains, which Jake Gyllenhall has to disarm before it blows up.

Metra spokeswoman Judy Pardonnet says the agency has reservations about the film. "The depiction in the film is very unsafe," she says. "Having the priorities of customer safety and satisfaction, it's of concern to us that it will maybe scare some of our riders."

The use of Metra in the film was given the green light by the previous executive director, Philip A. Pagano, now deceased. Pardonnet says had the contract been submitted to the Board of Directors, it might not have been approved.

But Pardonnet says there's no way to pull the movie back. It's out now, and not only did Metra cooperate in the filming, but was paid $44,000 for its trouble. Pardonnet says she hopes people realize the movie is fiction.

The picture was filmed in 2010 in Chicago and the suburbs, mainly on the Rock Island District line between Joliet and Chicago.
