Strategic Plan Coming Along for the Board of Health
A strategic plan is in the making for the Knox County Board of Health and Health Department.

The board set aside a Saturday earlier this month to develop a type of "roadmap" for the department to travel in the next five years.

Board President Jeanne Harland says the core strategies have been identified but more work must be done.

"Unfortunately you can't just go in and spend six or eight hours on a Saturday and boom have a strategic plan done, we started it. We still have to do a lot more work before it become actually workable and what we're going to have to do is assign some values, some benchmarks that we can work toward so we know when we've gotten to where we need to be and then we'll do some strategic planning and come up with some more."

The board is also keeping an eye to the more distant future as well, including a "View from 2021" which states where the board should be by that time.

The goal there is to be "engaged in the community, facilitating open dialog on health issues; resulting in collaborations, programs, and services that create a positive effect on the health of the community.
