Woman Accused in Theft Could Admit to Crime
A Galesburg woman accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from her former employer could soon admit to the crime.

A bench trial was scheduled to begin yesterday (Thursday) in Knox County Circuit Court for 36-year old Nina Morlang, but it couldn't proceed because Knox County Public Defender Jim Harrell was out ill.

Morlang is accused of stealing around 80-thousand dollars from Knox Pet Clinic on West Main Street. Prosecutors contend that at the time of the suspected thefts, she was its business manager, and only deposited some of the money the clinic took in at times, not all of it.

Assistant State's Attorney Erik Gibson, meanwhile, told Judge Paul Mangieri yesterday that a partially-negotiated plea had been worked out. Mangieri, without Harrell present, said he did not want to schedule a plea hearing just yet, instead opting for a pre-trial conference on May 5th.

Morlang faces six-different felony theft charges -- four of which are Class-Two Felonies, and two of which are Class-Three Felonies. She's pleaded not guilty.
