Galesburg School Board Members Sign Off
Members of the Galesburg School Board that either were defeated in this month's election, or opted not to seek new terms, are bidding their farewells.

The three leaving the board -- Deborah Harrison, Gloria Osborn, and Doctor Carl Strauch -- will take part in a ceremony honoring them next month, and then Thomas Coclasure, Natalie Kessler, and Molly Palmer will be sworn in.

Strauch, before last Monday's meeting, says he had a talk with a former district superintendent that puts things into perspective.

"Having talked to Ron Cope, Ron pointed out he retired in 2000, and he was amazed that five to seven members here tonight were on the board when he retired in 2000," said Strauch, "He said very few boards have had the stability that this one has over the years. So the shakeup starts next month, I guess."

Strauch said the only advice he has for the new board members is simple: good luck.

Strauch and Harrison joined the board at the same time -- 1995.
