Pet Supply Business Considered for City Loan
The City of Galesburg is being asked to help out a downtown business as they prepare to move into a new location and expand their operations.

The Galesburg City Council Monday night will consider, among other things, a $150,000 loan for Thorn's Pets and Supplies.

City officials say the owners, Ted and Alice Thorn, are planning on moving from their current North Seminary Street location when their lease expires, to 56 North Prairie Street after purchasing the property late last year.

Officials say the two want to rehab the building heavily damaged by the 2006 O-T Johnson's Fire., and the city revolving loan would help fund the estimated $516,000 needed for that work.

Aldermen are also asking the city to give Thorn's $30,000 in Tax Increment Financing District money to go towards installing a Fire Sprinkler system, and they'll also get a Facade Renovation Grant.

The Galesburg City Council will also consider an animal control agreement, and support of a task force Mayor Sal Garza wants to appoint regarding Military Service Members and their families.

The City Council meets at 6:15 in council chambers at City Hall.
