Unifying Galesburg by a Simple 'Woo Hoo' or Two -- LISTEN TO RALLY HERE
We don't know if it's true or not, but apparently our local lawmakers may be taking something back to Springfield with them as they do the people's legislative work.

"The gentlemen down in Springfield, when these gentlemen cast their vote they actually go 'Woo hoo' at every vote so this is old hat to them."

Mayor Sal Garza talking about State Representative Don Moffitt and new State Senator Darin LaHood, at Sunday's rally outside the Knox County Courthouse in support of Galesburg's nomination and current second place showing in the current incarnation of the Readers Digest "We Hear You, America" contest.

Dozens gathered to hear local and state officials speak on behalf of what's good about Galesburg, and all called on a greater sense of public pride regardless the outcome.

Garza says it's not hard to vote, and to help encourage voting among those who might not want or know how to.

"Start using your imagination, beg your friends and family to get involved, it they're anxious - offer to help them, we know that voting is so easy."

If vaulted back into first place, the city could receive $40,000 cash from Readers Digest. LaHood suggested the community should come together to decide how to best spend that money.
