Gas Prices Reaching Higher and Higher
(IRN)-The price of gas in Illinois is over $4 a gallon.

The statewide average for April is $4.02, according to the Triple A Chicago Motor Club, the first time the price has exceeded $4 since July 2008. Triple A spokesman Nick Jarmusz says the price is where it is due to the price of the main ingredient, crude oil, trading at around $108 a barrel. That's due to instability in the Middle East and Libya, and speculation in the oil market.

But Jarmusz says the price of gas has little effect on daily driving habits. When the price was even higher in 2008, there were some conservation measures taken, he said, but there was no large-scale shift toward car-pooling or other non-automobile forms of transportation.

The current price up 39 cents since March, and $1.02 since last year at this time.
