RNC Chair Visits Illinois
(IRN)-Will Illinois be "in play" in the 2012 election for president?

The chairman of the Republican National Committee, Reince Priebus, visited Chicago Wednesday to put some symbolic heat on President Obama, saying Republicans here shouldn't give up before the first pitch is thrown.

"We wanted to come right to Illinois and proclaim first of all that we're not conceding Illinois. We're gonna fight here and turn Illinois red and we're gonna do it just like we did with Senator Kirk and winning five [actually four] congressional races [in 2010] and doing a great job on the ground here in Illinois," he said.

Priebus is from Kenosha, Wis., and is the former chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party.

Priebus says there will be many contenders for his party's nomination for president, but he doesn't know how many or who will remain in contention by the time the Illinois primary rolls around 11 months from now.

The president has set up his campaign headquarters in Chicago.
