Pet Supply Business Gets Boost from City
A Galesburg business is looking to move it's operations and expand business at the same time.

Owners of Thorn's Pets and Supplies, Ted and Alice Thorn, were approved Monday night for a $150,000 loan from the city of Galesburg.

That would help them move from Seminary Street to a building they purchased last year on North Prairie.

Ted Thorn says he appreciates the opportunity that could only be possible with the city's help.

"We're just really thankful for the opportunity and again we'd like for it to be a real bright spot on that block down there and to have the opportunity to have a really unique business. We're very happy the city of Galesburg has chosen to help us along."

Mayor Sal Garza they are excited to see an old building preserved, 56 North Prairie, and the history with it.

"We also understand that you have a little bit of a unique feature in terms of the ghost mural on the north wall and so Galesburg is also going to be participating with you hopefully, and that is based on the approval of the city council, with the preservation of that ghost mural."

The North Prairie Street building was damaged in the O.T. Johnson building fire, but the Thorns also will receive $30,000 from the city through a redevelopers agreement for a sprinkler system.
