Illinois AG Seeks Restrictions on Mega-Dairy
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois' attorney general has filed a complaint against the owners of the proposed Traditions Dairy near Galena, in northwestern Illinois.

Lisa Madigan alleges a liquid byproduct used on-site leaked into the South Fork of the Apple River. She wants stricter environmental safeguards before allowing the dairy to operate.

The proposed dairy has ignited an ongoing controversy in Jo Daviess County. The County Board has cast an advisory vote against it and opponents have sued to stop it because of concerns large manure ponds planned for the site will cause pollution.

California dairyman A.J. Bos has proposed a dairy of about 5,500 head of cattle.
The dairy has received U.S Department of Agriculture approval. But the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. EPA seek more information before giving approval.
