Landmarks Group Suggests Reuses of Iconic Hospital
CHICAGO (AP) -- A historic preservation group is suggesting ways that Northwestern University can reuse its iconic Prentice Women's Hospital in Chicago instead of tearing it down.

Landmarks Illinois released a report Friday saying the cloverleaf shaped building is perfect for research labs, offices and medical-related housing.

The report also says reusing the building known for its curved façade and oval windows would provide ``visual relief'' from the boxlike high rises in the surrounding neighborhood and is less expensive than new construction

Northwestern has said it plans to raze the 36-year-old concrete-and-glass building later this year.

But preservationists say the building designed by influential architect Bertrand Goldberg is one of Chicago's most distinctive architectural designs from the 1970s.

Landmarks Illinois has named Prentice to its list of the state's 10 most endangered historic places.
