Monmouth College President Goes Over the Edge
It's not everyday the president of a major college jumps off a four story building.

But that's exactly what Monmouth College President Mauri Ditzler did earlier this week. The college's board of trustees put Ditzler up to the challenge at their February winter retreat.

Ditzler tells WGIL, it took some convincing to repel down the Haldeman-Thiessen Science Center, mainly naming the right price.

"Well, I agreed when we got to about $50,000. There were a couple of board members who agreed to match the initial amount so at some it seemed like, well in February I guess it sounded like a good idea. Yesterday[Wednesday] standing up on the edge of that building at about 100 feet in the air on a cold windy day and looking down at the crowd of people looked pretty small all the way down there, I wasn't sure it was a good idea."

The money raised will go toward the new academic building for business and science the school will begin construction on this summer.

The goal is to raise about $40 million dollars for the project which is estimated to cost about $38 million.

Ditzler hits there may be more fund raising repelling, perhaps by board members themselves in the future.
