Unemployment Moves Downward Again, If Not Slightly
The state of Illinois is touting jobless figures in March that went down for the fourth consecutive month. But that victory isn't much to cheer about if you're in this area.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the unemployment rate for Galesburg in March stood at 8.9 percent, down only one-tenth from February. The state says now, only 1309 people are listed as unemployed in the city. The drop from February seems even more slight when you consider that there were only 1,315 people listed as unemployed then.

In all of Knox County, the jobless rate is also at 8.9 percent, down three-tenths. That's a decline of 44 residents county wide, down to 2,300.

With a Warren County unemployment rate that went down a whopping seven-tenths of a percent to 7.9 percent, that puts the state's combined Galesburg-Area Unemployment Rate at 8.6 percent.

Among other area counties, Henderson County's jobless rate dropped six-tenths to go below double-digits, at 9.9 percent. Fulton County's 10.6 percent rate is down six-tenths from the month prior.
