Crash Leaves One Teen Dead, Another Under Arrest
UPDATED 3:16pm 4/22/11 A teenager is dead and two others injured after an early morning car accident in Gilson Friday.

According to a press release from the Knox County Sheriff's Department, four teenagers were driving in a single vehicle when it struck a power pole and rolled over several times on Richmond and Roberts Streets in Gilson around 3:25am.

A 15 year old who's been identified as Brandon Melton was pronounced dead at the scene while two other unidentified 15-year old passengers were transported to OSF Saint Mary Medical Center.

The press release did not state the extent of their injuries or where the teens are from.

The driver of the vehicle, 19-year old Jose Beltran, was also transported to the hospital.

He, however, was later arrested and charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, illegal consumption of alcohol by minor, driving under the influence of alcohol and aggravated driving under the influence.

Beltran is currently being held at the Knox County Jail.

According to reports, the Knoxville School district has left messages with parents that grief counseling will be available for students. Classes were not held Friday due to Good Friday.

A candlelight vigil is being scheduled for Tuesday night at the Knoxville High School Football Field according to THIS WEBSITE.
