Knoxville Student Killed in Crash
A community is grieving after the loss of Knoxville High School student.

Brandon Melton, a 15-year old freshman, passed away in a car crash early Friday morning in Gilson.

Four teenagers were driving in the area of Roberts and Richmond Streets around 3:25am when the car struck a power pole and rolled over several times, according to a Knox County Sheriff's Department news release.

Melton was pronounced dead at the scene, and two 15-year old passengers were taken to OSF St. Mary Medical Center, but their conditions are not known at this time. Their names have not been released officially, but have been circulated through the social networking website Facebook.

The 19-year old driver, Jose Beltran, was arrested after he was transported to the hospital.

He faces charges of aggravated driving under the influence, illegal consumption of alcohol, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident among others.

A candle light vigil is being organized for Tuesday evening at the football field of Knoxville High School, that begins at eight o'clock.
