Votes Canvassed, Fleming Still Wins, Reynolds Can't Challenge
FIRST REPORTED 12:00pm 4/25/11 The Galesburg Election Commission has officially certified the results from this month's election.

The Commission Monday morning certified every race on the city's ballot, including the close City Council 3rd Ward Race, which has now seen incumbent Russell Fleming defeat write-in candidate Chuck Reynolds by nine votes instead of six. The commission also ruled that state law indicates Reynolds can't contest that.

Fleming tells WGIL the results don't bother him too much.

"Just a couple more votes -- three more votes -- came in for me, which made the election official, after the certification," Fleming said.

Reynolds tells WGIL he had no intention of challenging the election anyway.

"I had a great time running for Third Ward alderman," Reynolds said. "Coming within [nine] votes as a candidate is a phenomenal accomplishment for our campaign."

Nevertheless, Reynolds says he WILL run again for the seat in 2015, and alleges that the public hasn't been served well at all by the Election Commission, from the moment they allegedly misinterpreted a law that originally forced him off the ballot.

But, he says, he can't afford to take legal action, so he won't.
